Nowadays Optical disks are available in the market. Sooner it will be replaced completely by Solid State drives like USB flash drive, hard drive, external hard drive etc.
So it is essential for you to master a technique to install an Operating System / Software in any kind of machines without the usage of CD/DVD.
All you need is a few gimmicks in cmd.exe (Command Prompt).
Why do we need a bootable USB?
To understand this you need to be familiar with BIOS
BIOS – Basic Input Output System
BIOS have the authority to give Boot priority to disks.
Disks first sector should contain MBR
MBR – Master Boot Record
The major role of MBR is to perform Boot by locating BOOTMGR in Windows / GRUB in Linux.
After that Bootloader got initialized.
Let’s go How to make a Bootable USB using Command Prompt
This tutorial is boiled down to three stages
- Boot sector
Step 1: Open Command Prompt
Press win key+ r This will open Run then type cmd
Step 2: Type diskpart
Mostly diskpart is used to create and collapse partitions.
Step 3: Type list disk
This command will list all the possible disks available in this machine.
Step 4: Type select disk 1
Make a selection by entering the disk and its priority number
Step 5: Type Clean
This will remove all the files and folders present in the disk.
Step 6: Type create partition primary
By using the Primary partition, you can store OS and Data in the same drive.
Step 7: Type select partition 1
Step 8: Type Active
Active command makes one OS as bootable by making others automatically inactive when you have multiple OS in your disk.
Step 9 : Type format fs=ntfs quick
Format Filesystem to New Technology Filesystem
Step 10: Type exit
In my case DVD drive is E and External USB drive is F
Step 1: Type your DVD drive location
Step 2: Type cd boot
Change directory to boot
Step 3 : Type bootsect /nt60 f:
Step 4: Type Exit
Again Open Command Prompt as Run as Administrator
Step 1 : Type xcopy e:\*.* f:\/E/H/F
Step 2: Allow the process to complete, it may take 10 to 15 mins.
Once the process complete use the USB drive on a machine. This below image may serve as a reference for you to check whether it works?
